How We Work

Judgment-Free Environment

You bring the real numbers; we bring the structure and support. No lectures, no shame.

Education + Action

We explain why something matters, then work with you to create a simple, prioritized action plan.

Customized to Your Situation

Military, federal, dual-income household, single parent, self-employed—your plan is built around your actual life, not a generic template.

Who I Work With

HonorPoint Financial works with people at real turning points — those who are ready to stop feeling stuck and start building something solid. If any of the following sounds like you, you're in the right place.

Individuals & Families

You're earning income but feel like it disappears. You're ready for a clear spending plan, a debt payoff strategy, and a roadmap toward the financial life you've been working toward.

Small Business Owners

You built something — now you want your personal and business finances to actually work together. From cash flow design to tax-aware planning, we speak your language because we've been there.

Military & Veterans

Your financial situation has unique variables — VA benefits, military pay structures, deployment budgeting, and transition planning. We understand them because we've lived them.

Aspiring Homeowners

Whether you've been denied a mortgage or are just starting to prepare, we help you understand exactly what lenders need and build the financial profile to get there confidently.

Meet the Founder: Matthew Gorrell, WMCP®, AFC®, EA

WMCP® · AFC® · IRS-Enrolled Agent · U.S. Army Veteran · Business Owner

I started HonorPoint Financial because I’ve lived the financial journey most of my clients are on — and I’ve made the mistakes, learned the hard lessons, and built systems that actually work.

My background spans more than a decade of hands-on financial work with individuals, families, and small businesses. I’m an Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®), a Wealth Management Certified Professional® (WMCP®), and an IRS-registered Enrolled Agent — meaning I can speak to your budget, your debt strategy, your tax situation, and your long-term wealth goals all in the same conversation.

But credentials only tell part of the story. I’ve also personally built, operated, and sold businesses — S-Corps and LLCs — which means when I sit down with a small business owner, I understand the decisions you face because I’ve faced them myself. Cash flow pressure, entity structure, tax implications, exit planning — these aren’t abstract concepts to me. They’re experiences.

Add to that a U.S. Army background that instilled a values-driven, mission-first approach to everything I do, and you get a financial guide who brings discipline, honesty, and genuine commitment to every client relationship.

I call myself a guide intentionally. Depending on what you need, I may show up as an advisor, a strategist, a planner, or a counselor. The role flexes. The commitment doesn’t.

My practice is built around one promise: you’ll always know why I’m recommending something, how it fits your life, and what to do next.

What We Help With

HonorPoint Financial focuses on the foundations that make everything else possible:

  • Cash-Flow & Conscious Spending
Replace vague “budgeting” guilt with a clear, values-based spending plan that matches what actually matters to you.

  • Debt Strategy & Credit Rehab
Organize debts, choose a payoff path, and understand how your decisions affect your credit and future borrowing.

  • Mortgage Readiness
From cleaning up credit and managing balances to understanding DTI and documentation, we help you become a stronger mortgage applicant.

  • Tax-Aware Money Decisions

As a licensed tax preparer, I help clients understand how everyday choices — withholding, retirement contributions, health savings, debt strategy, timing of expenses — affect their tax picture.

(This is planning and education — not a substitute for complex tax services.)

  • Goal-Based Planning & Behavior Change
Turning “I should…” into clear next steps, timelines, and accountability.

Sessions are available virtually, with flexible evening and weekend options to fit around your work and family schedule.
